Ancient Civilizations (ARCY223)
This is a survey course designed to introduce students to the study of ancient civilisations. The course takes a global perspective and students will learn to recognise the main features of ancient civilisations. The course starts with a consideration of the rise of sedentism in various parts of the world (especially its first attestation in the Near East), its possible causes and consequences. The rise of Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Harapan, Chinese, Inca and Mesoamerican civilisations will be considered and comparatively studied.
